I visited Brassó (Brasov) in Transylvania, Romania in August 2017, travelling there by train using my Interrail pass. I went there for a weekend and stayed at the Belfort Hotel for one night in the city center.
The Belfort Hotel is a brand new construction at the bottom of a hill, surrounded by a beautiful forest, making for an amazing night’s sleep.
Finding the Belfort Hotel
If you come by train and don’t want to walk, I would recommend taking a taxi as the hotel is about 40 minutes walking from the main train station.
If you are walking from the direction of the old town, it will be on your right as you leave the main junction with a shop called Billa.
The Belfort Hotel building is several stories high with a modern entrance to the main street.
Entering the Belfort Hotel
The main entrance is up a few steps but they also have disabled access from the street level.
As you enter the building the reception desk will be on the left with a few nice yellow arm chairs on the right beside a café table.
In front of you is the main bar and as you approach it you will find the lift up a couple of steps. I didn’t have a chance to find out if it is possible to access the lift without walking up steps so it is worth asking before you book.
The Check-in Process
The receptionist was a young Romanian girl, she spoke fluent English but no Hungarian. She smiled when I arrived and the check-in was pretty quick with no hold ups.
I booked my room through Booking.com for less than £50 for the night which was very good value for money.
The Lobby Area
The lobby area is very well lit and airy, allowing in the beautiful sunshine all day. In fact, the entire lobby is covered over by glass, making it feel like you are in a glass house.
The design of the lobby is very modern with brand new furnishings and light fittings throughout the ground floor.
I thought the drinks were a little over priced so I didn’t stay for one.
Going Up to the Room on the Fourth Floor
Once I got my key card from the receptionist I headed upstairs to check out my room. I took the lift which was large enough for about 3-4 people. The public areas, including the stairs and corridors, have dark carpet which seemed very new and smelled clean.
My room was on the left out of the lift, about 15-20 steps away, so a convenient distance to keep the noise of people coming and going out of the room.
Entering the Room
The key card worked for the first time, I didn’t need to re-try several times which is often the case at many hotels.
Just past the door there is a big ante-room with storage for the suit case and coats.
I entered the main bedroom through this smaller room. The room was already nice and cool thanks to the air conditioner which was also brand new. The entire room smelled fresh and clean and the huge windows let in plenty of sunlight. I could also just take in the sights of the forest and listen to the birds chirping away.
The windows were double glazed and opened to the inside of the room. The curtains, when fully closed, blocked out all the sunlight allowing for a comfortable nap in the afternoon.
The Bed
The bed was very large and spacious. I laid down to test it and I didn’t want to get up! The pillows were soft but firm, so just perfect. I didn’t even need to stack two of them on top of each other to get the correct height.
The Rest of the Bedroom
There were two bedside cabinets with a lamp on each. There were various switches and plugs near the bed so I didn’t need to get up to turn the main light off.
The TV was on the wall in front of the bed, above the desk. The desk was large enough to accommodate a kettle, cups and coasters plus the menu for the rooftop restaurant and bar. The chair was comfortable and there were plenty of plugs for my laptop and chargers.
The Bathroom
The bathroom was a nice size with a big window above the bathtub to let some natural light in. The wall opposite the bathtub was home to a huge mirror, the hair dryer and an extra light.
The tap was eco-saver: if you want stronger flow of water you need to pull it harder until it clicks into position.
The bathtub was large but I decided to shower only as it was very hot outside and I felt sticky and just wanted to go on my way to discover the city.
The shower was powerful and the water was hot and I didn’t need to wait long for it to arrive.
Overall Impression
I think the room was perfect and of very high standard, although the bar was slightly over-priced in my opinion.
The location of the hotel is perfect to discover this ancient city and the rooms are priced to sell so I would definitely recommend a stay here.
