Cybashield Credit Card Protection – My New Travel Gear

The Cybashield Booth at the Destinations Travel Show

I discovered Cybashield Credit Card Protection while I was at the Destinations Travel Show this weekend. I came across Cybashield while wondering around between the booths, noticing a big queue with people getting their money out to pay. This intrigued me as you don’t often see people flocking to buy something so I decided to listen in.

Basically, Cybashield is a plastic card that blocks any signal from your credit cards and passport, preventing criminals from stealing your identity. It works by jamming the radio signal from any card reader.

So, for instance people intent on stealing your card information while you walk down the street will be unsuccessful because they will receive no signal from your valet.

Nowadays pickpockets use Radio Frequency Identification technology (RFID) to steal your identity, which is a neat way of doing it as they don’t even need to open your bag.

The Idea Behind The Card

How it works is this: criminals walk up and down the street with a bag containing a small electronic device which can read any credit card or passport enabled with paypass or a magnetic chip.

It is as simple as that: someone walking near you with the right scanner can steal all your personal data and money, then take out a loan, mortgage or even a brand new identity. This form of crime is becoming more and more common as technology becomes easier to obtain. You can even use a smart phone app to steal someone’s identity by scanning their bag for radio signals.

Here comes in Cybashield. It is a simple credit card sized plastic card working to shield your valet. You put it in amongst your cards and after that nobody will be able to scan your credit cards. They also have a passport holder which works the same way.

They had a special offer at the Destinations Travel Show and so I bought the passport holder and the card for £30 together. I quite like this travel show as every year there is something new to discover at the event – like this signal jammer. For example, last year I met Doniert McFarlane with his travel app – which he told me about in this podcast.

I also met the inventors of a special bottle called Water to Go, but I will tell you all about that in another article.
