Mercure Hotel Bangkok Makkasan – Review

Bangkok Skyline View From My Room

The Mercure Hotel Bangkok Makkasan is ideally located for the international airport and the business district as it is right next to the metro line and on the doorstep of all the skyscrapers.

I was in the Bangkok region for a little over a week in May 2018 and on my last night I stayed at the Mercure Bangkok Makkasan Hotel. The room came in at 2,648 Thai Bhat (USD80) for one night, excluding breakfast.

My bus to Bangkok from Prachuap Kiri Khan arrived late at night so I needed somewhere to stay as my flight wasn’t until 1PM the following day.

Mercure Hotel Bangkok Makkasan Map

I picked the Mercure Hotel in Bangkok’s Makkasan district because it was near the Makkasan Metro Line station where I could catch a direct train to Bangkok Airport next morning.

My room was spacious and had floor to ceiling windows which was amazing to admire the city views during the day and at night.

Special Design Details At The Mercure Hotels

The Mercure Hotel Lobby

Whenever I stay at a Mercure I am amazed by the attention to the detail and the special design features that make every room feel different even though they belong to the same chain.

This room even had an international plug in the wall for UK plugs! I just loved it, especially that I left my converter at home!

I also really loved the armchair by the window where I sat several times taking in the stunning city views.

I would say hands on my heart this was the probably the best view I’ve experienced in Bangkok and I stayed in a handful of hotels in the city before.

The hotel lobby on the 8th floor was also very nice with huge windows overlooking the city and the elevated railway line.

The check-in process took a little less than 10 minutes after which I headed up to the room on the 18th floor. The room had a magnetic key slot and I had to place the key in the card holder to start up the electricity supply in the room.

As I entered the bathroom was on my right with a separate toilet and sink just outside the shower door. On my right were the cupboard and a desk with a fridge underneath and tea and coffee facilities on top.

Room Amenities

Breakfast Area

There was a safe in the cupboard although I did not use it as I stayed for a short while and I did not leave the hotel at all.

The bed was very comfortable with a soft duvet and a couple of firm pillows as I requested in my profile.

The flat screen TV was right in front of the bed with various international channels which I used to watch an interview with former US President George W. Bush in the morning.

Book About Bangkok’s History

The Reception Area Of The Mercure Hotel Bangkok Makkasan

While I was lying in bed I could simply turn my head to the right and admire the city views while the commercial breaks were on TV. There was also a nice book about Bangkok in the corner shelf which I decided to read after the interview with Bush.

Both the book and the interview were very interesting, after which I had to check out and head out to the airport to catch my flight back to London.

Downstairs, the hotel’s tuktuk took me out to Makkasan station and I made my way to the airport from there.
