The NH Hotel Frankfurt Villa is a medium size hotel not far from the center of Frankfurt’s financial district. I was attending the Feedinfo 2017 Feed Additives Conference at the Marriott round the corner which was full during the event so I had to stay at the NH Hotel.
This was my second time at an NH Hotel, the first being in Berlin near the Tiergarten. I was looking forward to staying here as I wanted to top up on my green shower gel which I could only ever find in Berlin! So without further ado, here is my review of the NH Hotel Frankfurt Villa!
Finding the NH Hotel Frankfurt Villa
If you come by train it very easy to find the hotel. As you come out of the station turn left and walk straight down the road for about 20 minutes until you reach the Marriott.
Walk past the main entrance until you reach the corner where you will need to turn right. The NH Hotel is the second building and the entrance is at the back by the car park.
You can also take a taxi from the airport which will take about 25-30 minutes direct.
Entering the Hotel
The main entrance is at the back and it is quite easy to miss the hotel as there are hardly any signs to it. I walked around a couple of times before I located the main door. The reception is only open until 10PM so I was lucky to arrive by 950pm! After 10PM you can use your key card to enter the building.
First Impressions
My first impression of the hotel was that it was more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel, but nonetheless I liked it. The stairs were made of dark grey granite and the walls painted a light colour. The reception was small and first I had to climb up then down a few steps to reach it.
The Lobby Area
There was not much of a lobby area, except for an arm chair under the stairs.
Checking In
The receptionist was very courteous and smiling all the time – I think she was from Turkey. The check-in was pretty quick and she asked for my membership number which was great because otherwise I almost forgot I had it!
The Lift and Public Areas
There was a lift but instead I walked upstairs as I was on the first floor. I really liked the craftsmanship that went into building the stairs – the granite floor was really well made and the grouting was very consistent so it caught my eye.
Inside the Room
The key card worked for the first time, although the second and third night I had to use my “insider knowledge” to open the door. Sometimes even when the light shows green the door doesn’t open – but I am not going to tell how to fix it without calling a receptionist! If you want to find out write a comment!
Once I got in the bathroom was in front of me and the actual room was on the left of me.
The room was very large and spacious with a big double bed which was in fact two single beds pushed together. Instead of a double duvet there were two single duvets but it was fine for me.
The Bed
The bed itself was comfortable with a couple of pillows and the usual bedside cabinet and light on the wall. There was one plug on each side under the lamps and also the light switches so I didn’t need to get up before I fell asleep.
The Rest of the Bedroom
In front of the bed was a big desk with a coffee machine, a mini bar and various tid-bits for tourists. On the right of the desk was a big cupboard with a safe and a suitcase stand, plus a big floor lamp.
The room had air-conditioning as well as a wall-mounted central heating unit. It gets pretty cold in Frankfurt in the winter so you might need both.
The thing I didn’t like here was that the TV was mounted on the wall in a silly angle to the bed. In fact, to be able to watch it I had to pull the wall-mount out and keep it like that, which was OK but not ideal.
Wifi in the Room
The wifi was working fine and it was free with the booking. I managed to watch a couple of youtube videos and send many emails and connect to the internal network using my work laptop.
The Bathroom
The bathroom was very simple, covered in white tiles throughout. There was a bathtub and shower and a sink in the corner with not very much space for anything.
The hair dryer was on the right of the mirror, above the toilet and under the tissue paper so I often knocked something over while lifting the hair dryer up.
There is not much to complain about except the toilet was not clean as the picture testifies. I mentioned this at the reception and they sent the cleaner up but even after the second clean it was still yellow and not white. Obviously they don’t know that they need to use limescale remover or a bit of acid to make it nice and white again.
Breakfast
Breakfast was in the rate and so I went down every morning. It wasn’t anything spectacular just the usual croissants, bread rolls, some jam and butter plus the hot drinks.
Overall Impressions
I enjoyed my stay and I had a good night sleep every night. If you are in town for a business trip I would recommend a no-frills stay here, especially that they have a good size car park in the city center.
